Commission versus volume: which number actually matters

Commission versus volume: which number actually matters — Kira, Maldives

The board ranks on volume. You are paid on net revenue. They are different numbers and confusing them leads to bad decisions.

Two numbers follow you around as an affiliate here, and they measure different things.

Volume

Total deposits made by your referred members over a period.

This is what the weekly board ranks on, and what decides prizes. It is a clean measure of scale — how much activity you brought — and it is the same yardstick for everyone regardless of tier.

Net revenue

Gross revenue from your members, less bonuses credited, payment processing fees and chargebacks.

This is what your commission is calculated on. It is smaller than volume, sometimes much smaller, and it varies with how your members behave.

Why they diverge

A member who deposits MVR 10,000 and withdraws MVR 9,500 contributed MVR 10,000 to your volume and very little to net revenue.

A member who deposits MVR 2,000 steadily every week for six months contributes less volume per event and far more net revenue over time.

Both are real. They reward different things.

Which to optimise

If you are chasing the board and the monthly prizes: volume. A short burst of high-deposit activity moves you up the standings.

If you are building income: net revenue, which means member retention. Twenty members still active after six months are worth more than two hundred who registered once.

Most affiliates who last optimise for the second and place on the board as a side effect. Volume without retention is a spike; retention produces volume month after month.

A worked comparison

Two affiliates, same month:

Affiliate A — 8 members, high deposits, heavy withdrawals.

  • Volume: MVR 600,000
  • Net revenue: MVR 45,000
  • At Silver (30%): MVR 13,500

Affiliate B — 60 members, modest deposits, steady play.

  • Volume: MVR 420,000
  • Net revenue: MVR 96,000
  • At Silver (30%): MVR 28,800

A sits higher on the board. B earns more than twice as much.

The following month, A's eight members may be gone. B's sixty are mostly still there.

Negative months

If net revenue for a period is negative — a referred member wins substantially — the shortfall carries into the next period rather than producing a negative payment. It is cleared against future earnings and never billed to you.

This is worth understanding before it happens, because it will eventually, and it looks alarming on a dashboard if you are not expecting it.

What to watch weekly

  1. Active members — the only number that compounds
  2. Net revenue per active member — is the quality holding?
  3. Volume — only if you are chasing a prize this period

In that order.
