Stay in control
Every licensed platform in this directory is required to offer spending controls. Almost nobody switches them on during their first session, which is exactly when they are easiest to set at a sensible level.
On most platforms these live under account settings, labelled Limits or Responsible play. Set them before you deposit, not after.
The controls available
Deposit limit
A ceiling on what you can pay in per day, week or month. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately; raising one is delayed by 24 hours to 7 days. That asymmetry is deliberate.
Loss limit
A ceiling on net losses across a period. More effective than a deposit cap for most people, because it accounts for money cycled back through winnings.
Session reminder
A timer that interrupts with elapsed time and current net position. Useful because time genuinely passes differently when you are focused.
Cooling-off
A short account lock, typically 24 hours to 30 days. Reversible once it expires, not before.
Self-exclusion
A long-term lock, typically six months or more. Cannot be lifted early — that is the point of it.
Reality check on spend
A running total of deposits against withdrawals over a chosen window, so the net position is a number rather than an impression.
Signs worth taking seriously
- Staking money set aside for something else — rent, bills, family costs
- Increasing stake sizes to recover an earlier loss
- Hiding activity, or the amount spent, from people close to you
- Feeling you need to continue in order to put things right
- Borrowing to fund activity
- Losing interest in things you previously enjoyed
