Improving your conversion rate

If clicks are high and registrations are low, the problem is not traffic. Six things to check, in the order they usually go wrong.
Traffic is the easy half. Turning it into active members is where most affiliates leak.
Work through these in order — they are listed by how often they are the actual cause.
1. You are sending the wrong people
A thousand clicks from an unrelated group converts worse than fifty from an audience that trusts you.
Check: where did the clicks come from? If your best-converting source is your smallest, stop chasing volume from the others.
2. You did not set expectations
A reader who clicks without knowing what is on the other side bounces immediately.
Fix: say what happens next. "Registration takes about three minutes and needs an ID for verification" converts better than "click here."
3. You are not disclosing
Counter-intuitive, and consistently true: disclosed commercial links convert better than hidden ones. People can feel when they are being sold to, and discovering it after the fact destroys the trust that was doing the converting.
Fix: say it plainly. "I earn a share if you sign up through this — costs you nothing."
4. You are posting at the wrong time
A link posted at 10:00 is buried by 21:00, when this market is actually reading.
Fix: post commercial content in the evening window, Thursday and Friday hardest.
5. You are asking too often
A channel where every third post is a link trains people to skip posts. Engagement falls, and with it conversion on the posts that matter.
Fix: one commercial post in every six to eight.
6. The friction is real, not imagined
Verification takes time. Some people start and do not finish.
Fix: warn them, and tell them it is a one-off. "Verification took me about an hour to be approved — do it once and you are done" prevents the drop-off that silence causes.
Numbers to expect
| Stage | Reasonable |
|---|---|
| Channel members → click | 3–8% per commercial post |
| Click → registration | 15–30% |
| Registration → active | 40–60% |
If click-to-registration is under 10%, the problem is expectation-setting. If registration-to-active is under 30%, the problem is who you are sending.
The one thing that beats all six
Being the person your audience believes. Everything above is optimisation around the edges of that.
